Remember that family vacation as a kid, when Dad stopped in the middle of nowhere so you could all stare at the World’s Largest Ball of Twine? Come on, how relaxing was that? Now, if all that twine had been woven into the World’s Largest Hammock, that would have been something to see!
It is, in fact, something to see – though the real World’s Largest Hammock is actually woven of nearly 10,000 feet of rope. The hammock record-holder spans 42 feet and holds up to 8,000 pounds – and it’s on display outside of our Point Harbor store just off the beach on the mainland, about 2 miles north of the Wright Memorial Bridge on N.C. 158.
Most of our customers actually visit the Point Harbor store to get that one last-minute OBX gift, such as a normal-size hammock, for that special someone, or to remind themselves of their stay on the Outer Banks, to hold them over until next time. But for whatever reason you stop, try to soak in all you can of that special OBX vibe – because no matter how far away you live, it’s always a long drive home.
