Hanging and Care Instructions for your Nags Head Hammock

LOCATION: Putting up your new hammock is relatively easy task. Decide on the location and measure to be sure the hammock will fit. This distance should be equal to or up to 1 1/2 feet greater than the overall length of the hammock. (i.e., 12' single, 13' double, 14' extra wide).

Approximately one foot of chain is included on each end of the hammock.

If you use posts, they should be 6" x 6" in diameter and 2-3 feet or deeper in the ground, depending on soil density. Be sure to use posts that are treated to prevent rot. Allow one extra foot between posts, beyond overall hammock length.

Actual height of hooks will vary depending on distance between the supports. A good average would be 48-52 inches feet above ground level.

To put in the hooks, make a starter hole with a drill bit is 3/16" in size or smaller. To make it easier to twist in the hook, slide a screwdriver through its eye and rotate it to gain more leverage. Be certain to insert hooks all the way to the eye. With proper installation of hooks, our hammocks are able to withstand 450 pounds of weight.

Hammock Hanging Instructions

ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: If the hammock is to be hung indoors, the hooks can be screwed into studs located in the walls of your home. Studs are usually located 16" apart. Hooks can also be screwed in solid concrete walls and hollow block masonry walls. Appropriate fasteners can be obtained from your local hardware store.

UNPACKAGING THE HAMMOCK: When you first take your hammock out, it may look a little rumpled from being packaged. The hammock may be too small but it will stretch out to its full length (1-2 feet more) and the weave will straighten itself. Simply hang the hammock and lay in it, retighten and repeat as necessary. If a rope should get pulled out of the weave several inches, simply slide the slack back into place and shake the hammock to help redistribute the rope.

Once hung, if the hammock seems tipsy, it is probably hung too tightly. If you feel it sags too much, hang it a little tighter. Getting in or out of a hammock can seem tricky at first. Be sure to sit down first in the hammock before putting your feet up. Center yourself in the hammock since getting over to one side makes it seem unstable. A lot of people enjoy stretching out across the hammock with their feet still on the ground to rock themselves.

MAINTENANCE

CLEANING: Everyone wants to know how to clean their hammock. To wash it, use warm, soapy water and a soft-bristled scrub brush. A liquid detergent such as Wisk or OxyClean works well. Lay the hammock on a deck, in a children's pool or in the bath tub. Wet it down thoroughly with a garden hose, let soak in detergent and scrub away. Rinse well and allow to dry. Cotton may shrink slightly but will stretch back out with use.

WOOD: The finish will wear off in time from weathering. Maintaining the finish will lengthen the life of your hammock. Do not disassemble, leave tied together and work carefully around the rope. Simply sand the wood and apply polyurethane high-gloss marine grade varnish.

CARE: Use as shady an area as possible to hang your hammock for the longest life possible. The more shade, the longer the life of the rope and the varnish. Store the hammock in a dry area during seasons that it is not in use. Do not store where mice or bugs can get to your hammock. Always check the metal chains and hammock hooks for wear, especially if they rust from weathering. Replace if necessary.

REPAIRS: The workmanship of our hammocks is something we take pride in. If problems should arise from manufacturer's defect we will replace or repair the hammock at no charge. If the hammock is damaged by a frisky dog or squirrel, we offer the necessary repairs at a low cost. For repairs, please send your hammock to our Kill Devill Hills location with a note giving us your contact information. You can also call this store to inquire about the repairs you need.

UNDER NORMAL USE, THE HAMMOCK WILL LAST FOR YEARS - HOPEFULLY, THE MEMORIES WILL LAST A LIFETIME. ENJOY YOUR NEW HAMMOCK WITH OUR THANKS!
